This is one of the few industries that actually grew in the last year and i can vouch for that.

One of the problems I have with it is all of the Seo companies in Portland that are not really seo companies but companies that just sell you adwords with a bad deal.  The reason I mention this is that so many of them are call centers that are trying to get your Credit Card number and not caring about the clients well being or ROI.

This is something I come across all the time when I talk to potential clients and they are not just hurting the Search Engine Optimization industry, but also the customer.  Shame on you.

After purchasing both new and existing websites and getting them to rank in the search engines I have found these two things to be very true.

Having the Keywords you want to rank for in the domain name gives you a big advantage in ranking higher in the search engines.

The older the domain name, the more authority the search engines give it, so that means you will rank higher.  If you are going to purchase a domain name, I recommend that you buy an existing one that is about to expire (Costs only $5, ask me how if you need help).  If you buy one that way you can retain the age of the domain and get a leg up on the competition.  About 40k sites expire everyday and there is a good chance that you will find something with your name or keyword in it.
